This is the largest land snail in the world. On average they grow to about 18 cm but 22 cm is no exception. Some specimens can grow to a height of 30 cm.
This species is found in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Togo, Ghana and Nigeria, but according to some sources also in Congo.
The average age is 5 to 7 years, but they can live up to 10 years.
During a drought period, they burrow and hold a drought sleep until the rains begin again.
